Advices & Queries / Cynghorion a Holiadau 12 & 19/08/18

34. Remember your responsibilities as a citizen for the conduct of local, national, and international affairs. Do not shrink from the time and effort your involvement may demand.

Cofiwch eich cyfrifoldeb fel dinesydd am reolaeth materion lleol, cenedlaethol a rhyng-genedlaethol. Peidiwch ag arbed yr amser a’r ymdrech y gall eich ymrwymiad ei hawlio.

35. Respect the laws of the state but let your first loyalty be to God’s purposes. If you feel impelled by strong conviction to break the law, search your conscience deeply. Ask your meeting for the prayerful support which will give you strength as a right way becomes clear.

Perchwch ddeddfau’r wladwriaeth ond boed eich teyrngarwch pennaf i fwriadau Duw. Os cymhellir chwi gan argyhoeddiad cryf i dorri’r ddeddf, chwiliwch eich cydwybod i’w ddyfnderau. Gofynnwch i’ch cwrdd am y gefnogaeth weddigar a’ch nertha wrth i’r llwybr cywir agor o’ch blaen.

Advices & Queries / Cynghorion a Holiadau 29/07/18 & 05/08/18

31.We are called to live ‘in the virtue of that life and power that takes away the occasion of all wars’. Do you faithfully maintain our testimony that war and the preparation for war are inconsistent with the spirit of Christ? Search out whatever in your own way of life may contain the seeds of war. Stand firm in our testimony, even when others commit or prepare to commit acts of violence, yet always remember that they too are children of God.
Gelwir arnom i fyw ‘yn rhinwedd y bywyd a’r gallu sy’n symud achos rhyfeloedd’. A ydych yn cynnal yn ffyddlon ein tystiolaeth fod rhyfel, a pharatoi am ryfel, yn anghyson ag ysbryd Crist? Chwiliwch yn eich ffordd o fyw am unrhyw arwydd o hadau rhyfel. Sefwch yn gadarn yn ein tystiolaeth, hyd yn oed pan fo eraill yn cyflawni neu’n paratoi i gyflawni gweithredoedd o drais; ond cofiwch eu bod hwythau hefyd yn blant i Dduw.

32.Bring into God’s light those emotions, attitudes and prejudices in yourself which lie at the root of destructive conflict, acknowledging your need for forgiveness and grace. In what ways are you involved in the work of reconciliation between individuals, groups and nations?
Dygwch i oleuni Duw yr emosiynau, yr agweddau, y rhagfarnau hynny ynoch eich hunan sydd wrth wraidd gwrthdaro dinistriol, gan gydnabod fod arnoch angen maddeuant a gras. Ym mha ffyrdd yr ydych yn llafurio i gymodi rhwng unigolion a grwpiau a chenhedloedd?

Governance
Help us find the right Friends to re-write the Book of Discipline
By 1 September
Central Nominations Committee is looking for Friends to serve on the committee which will rewrite the Book of Discipline (Quaker Faith & Practice). We do not want to miss Friends across Britain who are not known to us. They could be younger, less confident Friends. Or a stalwart member of your meeting who would never presume to put their name forwards. In all cases they will be well grounded Quakers, with a deep understanding of Quakerism. We ask you to put the names of those Friends forward. You can do this as an individual Friend or as a meeting.

Please email nominations@quaker.org.uk with the Friend’s name and their AM or worship group.
You can also fill in the on-line form via THIS LINK

Finally
UK Peaceworkers 2 into 3 A big thank you!
We are very pleased to announce that we have exceeded our target and have been able to employ a third Peaceworker!
On top of this, because of the generosity of Friends we have
£6,560 towards the £28,592 cost of a third Peaceworker next year! We would like to thank all the Friends who supported this appeal. This year’s peaceworker placements will be
at Child Soldiers International, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament’s (CND) Peace Education Programme and British American Security Information Council (BASIC).

Quaker Week and outreach
Quaker Week 2018
29 September – 7 October 2018
This year’s theme is ‘Room for more’. As Quakers we offer a table rich with good things, but recognise it could be more inclusive. There is room for more at the table – how can we let people know there’s a space for them? Quaker Week posters will be delivered to Clerks by mid-August. There are still some recipe book ideas packs left - get in touch if you would like one (email address below).
You can still book your speaker for Quaker Week - we can offer speakers on a wide range of subjects. Speaking engagements must be finalised by the end of July, so get requests in now to avoid disappointment.
